Track lighting compatibility

Track Lighting Compatibility Guide: H, J & L Systems

Identify your existing track, compare adapter types, and choose compatible Hiiglxii lighting with confidence.

Start with the rail

Identify your track system before ordering

Track heads can look similar from below, but the adapter contacts and locking geometry are different. H, J, and L components are not interchangeable.

J

J-Type Track

Uses a different contact arrangement and locking profile. A J-type head should only be installed on a compatible J-type rail.

L

L-Type Track

Has its own keyed adapter geometry. Similar dimensions do not mean the electrical contacts will align correctly.

How to confirm compatibility

Use the product listing, your existing track label, and a clear photo of the adapter before making a purchase decision.

Turn off power

Switch off the circuit before removing or examining any installed track head.

Find the rail label

Look inside the channel, near the power feed, or on an existing adapter for manufacturer and system markings.

Compare contacts

Count and position the metal contacts, grounding tab, and locking ridge. Do not rely on overall shape alone.

Check the listing

Confirm track type, voltage, bulb base, wattage limits, and installation instructions on the product page.

Important: Never force an adapter into a rail. If the contacts or locking tab do not align easily, stop and confirm the system type.

Common questions

Track compatibility FAQs

Clear answers to the compatibility questions homeowners ask before buying track lighting.

Are H, J, and L track heads interchangeable?

No. Each family uses a different adapter and electrical contact arrangement. Match every head or pendant to the exact rail type.

How can I tell whether my track is H-type?

Check the rail label and compare the electrical contacts, grounding tab, and locking orientation with a confirmed H-type adapter. A clear photo can help support verify the layout.

Will an H-type pendant fit the same rail as an H-type track head?

It can when both products are designed for the same H-type circuit and voltage, but always confirm the individual product specifications and rail manufacturer's instructions.

Can I use a dimmer with track lighting?

Only when the track heads or bulbs and the wall control are all dimmer-compatible. Check the bulb type, driver requirements, wattage range, and dimmer instructions.

What information should I send support?

Send photos of the rail channel, an existing adapter from multiple angles, any manufacturer label, the power feed, and the product you are considering.

Still not sure which track you have?

Send Hiiglxii a clear photo of the rail, adapter, and any visible label before ordering.
